While OpenField allows canvassers to claim turfs at their own speed and discretion, your program may call for assigning a specific turf to a specific canvasser. Or, you might have a situation where a turf already claimed by one canvasser needs to become available again to be picked up by a different canvasser.
Manually Releasing and Assigning Turf
Click the Burger Bar menu in the top left corner of your browser's menu to reveal a sidebar, then click Analytics.
This will take you to a list of all the Conversation Codes in your Garden. Select the Conversation Code that contains the turf you want to release or reassign.
💡Please click HERE for our article on Canvassing Analytics in OpenField to see what other analytic information is available for Conversation Codes!
After selecting your Conversation Code, you will begin in the Overview tab.
Scrolling down to the bottom of the Overview tab will reveal your Live Field View, which displays information for all the turf in this Conversation Code.
Release All Turf
Live Field View allows admins to look at how a canvass is going in real-time and to release and assign turf from the back end.
✏️ Please Note: Grey turf has been checked out by a canvasser. Dark blue turf has not.
At the top-right corner of the map is a button to Release All Turf, which will release all currently claimed turfs in a Conversation Code and make them available for another canvasser to claim.
Release and Assign Individual Turf
Clicking on an individual turf will display more information about that turf in three tabs: Overview, Manage, and Link to Turf.
The Manage tab is where an admin can release and assign turf.
Assign Turf
Click on the turf you’d like to release/reassign, then click Manage. Click on Assign To and begin typing the name of the canvasser you want to assign the turf to, then click Save.
If you want the assigned canvasser to receive an email alert letting them know they’ve been assigned to a turf, click Manage again, then click Email Assignee.
Release Turf
Click Release Turf to make an already claimed turf available for another canvasser to grab.
✏️ Please Note: To make finding claimed turfs that need to be released easier, click Show Unclaimed Turf in the bottom right-hand corner of the map and change the drop-down to No.
Automatically Release Turf
If you would rather turfs be released automatically when a canvasser logs out for the day, there is a checkbox at the bottom of the screen when editing a Conversation Code that will automatically release any turfs a canvasser is working on when they click Logout.
To edit an existing Conversation Code, click the blue 6-digit code next to the Conversation Code you’d like to edit from the Conversation Code homepage.
Click the checkbox at the bottom of the screen next to Release turf on logout, then click Save.
✏️ Please Note: If you choose to enable Release turf on logout, be sure that your canvassers know that if they log out accidentally, they will have to re-check out the turfs they were already working on, as those turfs will no longer appear in their Recent Turfs.
