How often has a bad signal or Wi-Fi connection ruined your plans? Thanks to OpenField, you can canvass in areas with little or no signal by downloading turf and working offline.

✏️ Please Note: Incognito mode is incompatible with Offline mode as it does not save browser caches.
✏️ Please Note: . Remember to sync your data and go back online as soon as possible. Do not clear your phone browser cache or reboot your device before syncing. We always recommend you sync your data within 24 hours!

Downloading Your Turf
Begin by downloading your turf so it’s available Offline. From The Map of Your Turf, tap the Click to Download for Offline button.
✏️ Please Note: You can download multiple turfs before going offline!
✏️ Please Note: This step must be completed on a stable cell or Wi-Fi connection before you can work Offline.
- A pop-up will appear with a loading bar to track your download progress.
- When it reaches 100%, you’re ready to start working Offline.
- Tap the Go offline button.
You’ll see a Yellow banner showing you’re successfully in Offline mode.
You’re all set to start knocking this turf offline!
Starting a Conversation Offline
Conversations work the same when you’re working with a connection. For detailed instructions, please check out our Start Canvassing with OpenField article.
Going Back Online
To save your conversations when knocking offline, you must sync your data before going back online.
✏️ Please Note: Your offline data is still saved unless you cleared your browser’s cache. This means that if you go back online, forget to sync, the conversation code expires, etc., your data is still there! However, we suggest canvassers sync within 24 hours to prevent data loss!
Tap the OpenField logo to open the navigation menu, then tap Go Back Online.
You’ll see the total number of conversations you had while Offline. To save them, tap the Sync Conversations button.
When you see the alert that the conversations were synced successfully, it’s safe to go back online! Tap the Go back Online button to exit Offline Mode.
What if I Forgot to Sync My Data While in Offline Mode?
If your phone dies in Offline mode and you’re mid-conversation, all of your data except your current conversation will still be saved, and the rules below will apply. Offline data is tied to your device, not your account. So, you must sync your data using the same device used for Offline mode.
If you store offline data without syncing (i.e., you either close the tab, forget about it, etc.), the data will be saved for roughly seven days. See below for specific browser and device rules.
✏️ Please Note: Regardless of the rules below, we always recommend data be synced within 24 hours.
iPhone
- Safari will wipe Offline mode data after 7 days on iPhones and iPads.
- Google Chrome on the iPhone will hold Offline mode data for 7 days.
Android
- Android devices will hold Offline mode data for 7 days.
